Summer is Here!!

With the heat quickly approaching I thought I would give you a really easy and inexpensive way to stay busy indoors.
I have been culling my collection of Halloween goodies to make room for this years inevitable Halloweenstravaganza. and I came across a rather large grouping of vintage Halloween cupcake liners.

I remember when I had originally picked them up I had wanted to use them to cover the surface of a few projects I had been working on however, I got so busy with other things that they unfortunately ended up being tucked away with a sampling of vintage Halloween paper odds and ends and there they stayed until today.

Halloween Flower Garden Pens:

Materials:
• 6 cupcake wrappers
• hot glue or tacky glue
• scissors
•washi tape
•pen or pencil

 Select your cupcake liners!!
Today I have chosen a mix of both vintage and vintage inspired liners. The orange and black cat face liners were purchased at Michael's (again for another project I never got around to completing but hey they were clearance and I think I only paid .50!) The vintage liners you can find online on eBay or possibly Etsy I found mine at the thrift store in a big ole bundle of goodies for $1

Step 1
fold your liners in half and then in half again and then once more. You should end up with a little witch hat shape. Once you have folded them the next step is to cut them into a slight teardrop shape on the side that opens like a book. Do this for the 5 main petal colors.

Step 2
fold your leaf liners the same as the petal liners and trim them on the open side to again create a teardrop shape.

Step 3
Place a small dot of glue in the center of each liner and glue down, print side facing up, until you have a stack that looks just like the photo.

Step 4
Place a small dot of glue in the center of the leaf color liner and add it to the bottom of the petal stack. Once dried glue the entire stack to the top of your pen/pencil.

Step 5
Place a small dot of glue on the top end of your pen or pencil to secure washi tape to your pen/pencil and then wrap your pen/pencil from the top all the way down. Finish with another dot of glue to secure your washi tape in place.

Step 6
Pat yourself on the back!! hooray you did it! now you are the proud owner of a beautiful and functional piece of art!!

Halloween Folk Art

Eek! Halloween is 100 days away and I have been working on tons of vintage inspired Halloween folk art goodies to spook up your Halloween decor this year! Here are a few of the items I have been working on this month: You can find them at Etsy.com/shop/VanDollsFolkArt
I have finally finished working on my Halloween light up candy buckets! Whew that took me a while. I absolutely love the vintage look and feel of these buckets. They are also an absolute joy to have hanging around my studio.

Making 2 Part Silicone Molds

It’s time to make molds! I have been working on this set of Johanna Parker Designs inspired trick or treat buckets for a few weeks now. I have decided the best way to keep their original charm would be to make up a mold for casting.  This is such a messy process! I made the mistake of wearing my favorite pants while I applied the many layers of silicone to the exterior of these spooky cuties needless to say I ended up wearing a bit of silicone as well! It takes between 4-5 layers of this sticky goop to build up enough layers to make a solid mold, with roughly 2 hours in between coats it is assured I will be at it all day(totally worth the effort though!)
