New Catarina Halloween Paper Clay Dolls

Making the best of the day, getting my new Catarina figures finished and ready for their debut tomorrow evening. These dolls have taken quite a while to get made up. I have been wanting to create them for quite some time now I just haven’t had the courage to make them, mostly due to their size. I have always primarily worked on smaller projects with the exception of my Halloween candy pails. However; now that these ladies are finished I have definitely fallen in love with them. I wantedto give these ladies a touch of spookiness by incorporating the exposed bone chest and keep with the day of the dead theme by adding the hand sculpted floral touches.

Halloween Folk Art

Eek! Halloween is 100 days away and I have been working on tons of vintage inspired Halloween folk art goodies to spook up your Halloween decor this year! Here are a few of the items I have been working on this month: You can find them at Etsy.com/shop/VanDollsFolkArt
I have finally finished working on my Halloween light up candy buckets! Whew that took me a while. I absolutely love the vintage look and feel of these buckets. They are also an absolute joy to have hanging around my studio.

Making 2 Part Silicone Molds

It’s time to make molds! I have been working on this set of Johanna Parker Designs inspired trick or treat buckets for a few weeks now. I have decided the best way to keep their original charm would be to make up a mold for casting.  This is such a messy process! I made the mistake of wearing my favorite pants while I applied the many layers of silicone to the exterior of these spooky cuties needless to say I ended up wearing a bit of silicone as well! It takes between 4-5 layers of this sticky goop to build up enough layers to make a solid mold, with roughly 2 hours in between coats it is assured I will be at it all day(totally worth the effort though!)
